About

Hello! I’m currently a 5th year PhD candidate in the Neuroscience Training Program at UW-Madison. I am studying how different types of cells in the brain are connected to each other in mice using imaging technology.

By far one of the most rewarding aspects of my job as a scientist is communicating work to others. Mostly, I have done this in the academic setting, writing up research proposals and presenting at seminars. But, recently I’ve taken a several classes in the Life Sciences Communication Department and discovered the #scicomm community. In September, I started writing science stories for the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s e-newsletter.

Feel free to reach out and say hi! I’m interested in all things science, especially the intersections between science and society. You can also find me on Twitter @AllieCanales1 where I tweet about scicomm, race, and politics.
